  • When should I apply?
    We start interviewing staff in November and begin hiring for the summer in January. Once we have heard from previous staff who are planning to return, we know what positions are available. The earlier you send us an application, the better your chance of getting a job. However, we do hire right up until the summer so if you are interested please call us at (416) 782-0736 or email us at [email protected] to find out what positions are still available.
  • How much will I get paid?
    Camp Tamarack offers very competitive salaries. Your salary will depend on your position and experience. Keep in mind that the camp will provide room and board, and with the exception of what you spend on days off, you have virtually no expenses while at camp. Please also recognize that there intangible benefits of the camp experience that are invaluable.
  • How often are days off?
    There are 6 days off from the time the campers arrive until camp ends. Regular days off run from 7:45 pm until 7:45 pm the following day. If you have an special circumstance, you may be able to forfeit your day off one week during the summer and take back-to-back days off “a double day off” in a subsequent week. Your double day off may only be taken during our second session except if you’ve cleared a specific situation with the directors (i.e. a wedding) prior to camp.
  • How old are most of the staff?
    Most staff at camp are between 17 and 24. We do have staff in their mid-late 20’s and 30’s. Most counsellors and specialists are in high school, university or college. Our head specialists and unit heads are typically upper-year university students or university graduates. Our leadership team members either work full-time for the camp during the year or are teachers or other professionals who are able to take the summer off and come to camp.
  • Where do most staff come from?
    Most of our staff are from Toronto and the Ontario area. We do hire staff from across Canada, the USA, Europe, Australia and around the world. Camp is the perfect place to meet people from all over and make friends from all edges of the earth.
  • Do staff members live with campers?
    Cabin counsellors always live with the campers. Activity specialists, depending on age and experience, may or may not live with campers depending on what the directors deem appropriate. Activity heads and unit heads live in separate staff cabins.
